Supreme Court double jeopardy case could impact presidential pardon power

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court grappled on Thursday with a case concerning an exception to the Fifth Amendment’s ban on prosecuting an individual twice for the same offense in a case that could also possibly impact President Donald Trump’s pardon power as it applied to the Robert Mueller probe. In addition, it could also impact the presidential pardon power, leading to a question of what would happen if President were to pardon an individual like his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort for federal offenses. Under the exception, a state could conceivably bring a prosecution for the same crimes. That might not…

Push for more elderly crime convictions

“I’d like to assure older people that cases that go to the police will be investigated.” The CPS is opening its books on four cases involving older victims on Monday at its first area scrutiny panel on the issue in England and Wales. Bill Maher Trashes Fans Mourning Stan Lee And Adults Who Read Comics

In a blog post Maher wrote Saturday, the late night host trashed the impact that Stan Lee had on generations of comic book readers. The basis of the criticism seems to originate from his belief that comic books are for children. He chided adults for deciding about 20 years ago that they  didn’t have to give up kid stuff. Maher then took the rather large leap from comics to the political system. “I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to suggest that Donald Trump could only get elected in a country that thinks comic books are important.” they were not…
