Silencing Facebook rants, health device hackers and more: Tech Q&A

A: This kind of cyber-attack is the stuff of nightmares – to have your pacemaker deliver an unexpected shock, or to be deprived of insulin at a critical moment, and all of it is carried out remotely, by some stranger with a laptop. If you doubt that such a thing is possible, just listen to my podcast, where skilled hackers reveal precisely how they pulled this off. Tap or click here to hear from hackers who actually took control of pacemakers and other medical devices. Upgrade Regular TV Q: I have an old dumb TV. How do I make it…

The judgmental mom is little more than a stereotype

(CNN)It’s quite possible that, by the time I had my first child, I had read more articles about navigating relationships with other moms than ones about navigating my relationship with my baby. Parent media is full of stories about moms who “judge,” “shame,” “clap back” and are at “war” with other mothers. Of course, total seclusion wasn’t a possibility, and I did leave the house with my child now and then. As my exposure increased over time, so did my sense of surprise and, ultimately, bewilderment. Six years, two kids and three cities later, and I have never once felt…

How Tumblr’s adult content crackdown could alienate users

San Francisco (CNN Business)Tumblr says it is banning images and videos that feature “adult content,” including pornography, from its platform. The change, which will start December 17, threatens to alienate some of the blogging website’s most active communities. By expanding its list of banned material, Tumblr said it wants to make more people “feel comfortable expressing themselves” on the platform. Tumblr will still allow written adult content, including erotica, fan fiction and other creative writing. The company will enforce the new rules through a combination of automated detection, human moderation and assistance from community members who flag objectionable posts they…

Supreme Court double jeopardy case could impact presidential pardon power

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court grappled on Thursday with a case concerning an exception to the Fifth Amendment’s ban on prosecuting an individual twice for the same offense in a case that could also possibly impact President Donald Trump’s pardon power as it applied to the Robert Mueller probe. In addition, it could also impact the presidential pardon power, leading to a question of what would happen if President were to pardon an individual like his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort for federal offenses. Under the exception, a state could conceivably bring a prosecution for the same crimes. That might not…

Push for more elderly crime convictions

“I’d like to assure older people that cases that go to the police will be investigated.” The CPS is opening its books on four cases involving older victims on Monday at its first area scrutiny panel on the issue in England and Wales. It wants feedback from different organisations on how they prosecuted them. Mr Hughes said he accepted older people could be patronised or stereotyped as all being vulnerable, but they wanted to learn lessons so more people would have the confidence to report crimes. Hostility to elderly people could become a hate crime Driveway conman made £1m from…

Ivanka Trump’s 2009 Book Warning On Dangers Of Email Comes Back To Haunt Her

But President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter perhaps should have known better, given how she reportedly “My friend Andrew Cuomo, New York’s great attorney general (who is now Governor of New York), tells me that e-mail is the key to prosecuting just about everyone these days,” wrote Trump. Bill Maher Trashes Fans Mourning Stan Lee And Adults Who Read Comics

In a blog post Maher wrote Saturday, the late night host trashed the impact that Stan Lee had on generations of comic book readers. The basis of the criticism seems to originate from his belief that comic books are for children. He chided adults for deciding about 20 years ago that they  didn’t have to give up kid stuff. Maher then took the rather large leap from comics to the political system. “I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to suggest that Donald Trump could only get elected in a country that thinks comic books are important.” they were not…
